He also sees people with persistent physical symptoms and the focus of therapy is to enable people to better manage and cope with the physical symptoms they are experiencing and improve quality of life.
To enable clients to overcome the problems they are attending for Dr McCormack uses evidence-based psychotherapy, drawing upon a number of psychological approaches. The main approach he uses is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). The reason for this is because CBT is proven to be an effective therapy for a number of common psychological and emotional problems. However, as people are inherently complex and their problems unique, he always tailors therapy to a client’s individual needs so as to best support them to overcome the difficulties they are experiencing.
Dr McCormack holds a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (Queen’s University Belfast), a Master’s degree in Counselling Psychology (Trinity College Dublin) and a Postgraduate Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (Oxford University).
